The finest in contemporary Jazz and improvised music
Vienna, Vienne, Wien is an architecturally captivating city which has been a historical haven of the arts for centuries.
The Vienna Triptique (3 composers and 3 painters who gained cultural prominence during the same period) phenomenon has always fascinated me. An example of this is how the work of the composers Schoenberg, Berg and Webern connect esthetically to the paintings of Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka.
I often dreamt about Vienna years before I had the opportunity to go there, and my travels to this city proved to be truly transcendent. My experiences inspired me to give something back to the city and to some of Austria's incredible musicians and friends I have been working with for years.
I started writing The Vienna Suite with each musician of this band in mind. Even if their names aren't included in a title, they were part of the inspiration and the mood of the music, like the city.
As I was near finished writing the Suite, I was contacted to perform in Vienna. By the hard work of Georg Vogel and Jakob Sigl, we were able to record it.
It was a dream come true to be invited to perform The Vienna Suite in Vienna with the musicians for whom I wrote the music.
Thanks to all.
